RE: SVA-175 Viola Outfit
Dear Best S. Violins,
Received my viola today in perfect condition, bridge wasn't even out of
place. Tuned it up and tried it out. Blown away. But as somebody said to
me once, the Chinese have been making stringed instruments for 5,000 years.
Sincerely,
Rob McCall

RE: CC399 Core Shaped Violin Case
I just want to thank you for a wonderful shopping experience. This was my first time buying from you. I bought a 1/8 size violin case (Howard Core CC399) for my daughter, and your customer service dept. was incredibly helpful in helping me figure out if my daughter's bow would fit in the case. The case arrived in less than a week in beautiful shape, and everything fits perfectly. Thank you for making this first-time shopping experience an easy and pleasant one. I will certainly be buying from you again in the future! Keep up the outstanding customer service! :)

RE: VG-CG1K Student Guitar Outfit
My student had his first guitar lesson today. I wasn't really sure what to expect as far as the quality of the guitar went, although I knew it would be OK or you wouldn't offer it. Well, I was very pleased with it. Sounded really nice and I feel it was a great deal for the price. My student's mom was also very happy with her dealings with you. So thanks, and I'm hoping I get more guitar students to send your way!

RE: FRAUD against Music Teachers page
I just wanted to let you know that I was contacted by one of
the fraudulent emails (kenjack009@hotmail.com/ken_jack_02@yahoo.com). I
see that you are a music teacher, my ad on craigslist was for Art
lessons, so I guess any type of in-home lesson is at risk. I just wanted
to thank you for making this known.
I decided to search the name under craigslist scams to see if it was
legit or not (my brother was scammed out of $3,000 of tuition money when
he was looking for a roommate on craigslist) and your site popped up
under google.
Again. I just wanted to thank you sincerely for spreading awareness.
Keep it up.

RE: FRAUD against Music Teachers page
Hallo!
Thank you for your homepage, which my daughter found.
I am a voice teacher in Vienna, and since I have my homepage on internet have recently had two such email enquiries from people claiming to want to send their daughters for tuition.
One came from andy.jones44@hotmail.com in December.
The other came yesterday from dax_bill08@yahoo.com.au
Both wanted to send cheques. The first one, after four emails, disappeared.
By the second time I became suspicious and found your page yesterday. The second one wanted to send me a cheque for more than the lessons were worth, and asked me to refund the difference.
I have written to tell him that I do not accept payment by cheque, much less with complicated procedures!
Thank you for your work putting us wise to such frauds. We are trying to earn an honest and hard living!
Yours sincerely,
Susan Dennis-Gabriel

RE: FRAUD against Music Teachers page
Hi. I came across your site today after receiving a PHONE CALL with one of these scams. I am so used to the emails now, I don't even bother to open them. But this is the first time I have been targeted on the phone. The guy called three times within 10 minutes. The first time I did not get to the phone in time, the second time I spoke with him long enough to discover it was a scam and hung up, the third time I didn't answer. Any idea how to report this? It appears to be a wireless number from the Cleveland area.
Thanks!
Ed. Response:
Whoa; that is really scary. You have a phone number online? You shouldn't. I have a VoIP line, answer only. That way I can screen calls. I think I'd report it to the police. As a woman, you need to think about your personal security and safety. [See: Security Bookstore ] Please take care.

RE: Feedback on John Cage and Merce Cunningham
I only read your article because I woke up this morning with the dream with young Merce Cunningham in it. I've never known much about Merce except that he was a dancer and a choreographer, l just a little more about John Cage whose music - when I heard it - I loved. In any case in the dream I was friend with Merce (around 40y old) and we were visiting some undefined Zen Center even staying overnight there - sleeping on the floor as the Center was full of people. The thing is I've never known that he was with Cage and that they were interested in Zen. So there - tricks of the mind...I was telling my friend the dream and she told me about Cage and his zen interest.Life is strange and mysterious. By the way I'm Polish living in the States. Moved here to practice zen in 1981 but since am doing different type of meditation.Thank you for an insightful article. Love krysha

RE: FRAUD against Music Teachers page
Thank you for your article about scams. I get them all the time, too! However, I was very moved by your compassion and willingness to see that the people who are doing this might be desperate to survive....and yet you were inspiring to remind us that it's still wrong.
I wanted to share a website that a colleague of mine co-founded: Food for Children. This organization is volunteer run and is able to filter all donations to the needy. I know he received a nice donation this year and is always looking for great ways to share and help. His group is Christian based, but is not limited in scope or breadth. If you think this type of organization might be helpful to you in your efforts to educate about scams and at the same time inspire alternative actions .....I would invite you to share this. I had the good fortune of re-designing his website and I know it will provide you will some sense of the projects that get funded.
I hope this was useful for you and I thank you again for the work you do to keep us all better informed and protected.....and I was moved by your acknowledgement of and compassion for desperate peoples.
Sincerely,

RE: Fraud Against Music Teachers page
Re: The origin of these e-mails is Nigeria, the ISP is based in Amsterdam.
Actually, Amsterdam is the I(S)P hub of Europe (just like there is (at least) one in California for the US). If you go to the IP finder site Europe, you'll get to the next 'point of trave' of the ISP - either the original point, or perhaps a hub in Africa (if there is one - I've not tracked any ISP/IPs to Africa yet.
Best of luck and thank you for work informing people about the scams and spams out there.

RE: Fraud Against Music Teachers page
I just sent this email to the IC3 link you have on your website. I almost got scammed, but your website saved me...They are taking advantage of hard working teachers with little money. Please see that justice is served.
Ed. response:
I get so many of these I am no longer posting them. But I am very glad I could be of service to you and I'm glad you forwarded this to the authorities. I don't really have much to do with seeing that justice is done, except to keep the webpage up.

RE: Thank you
I was just swinging through the web for string sites, and found yours. What a great collection of information. Thank you! The only additional thing I'd love to see is an ordered list of etudes and corresponding concertos/pieces for violin. Have you thought of that, or is it already there, and I've just missed it?
Ed. response:
Thank you for your thoughtful note. Leopold Auer did something like that in his book, and I have those works listed at: Leopold Auer "Practical Repertory Hints" and Advanced Violin and Viola Literature. Also see: Indiana University String Academy Sequence of Etudes, which has coordinated the etudes with the Suzuki books.

Thanks very much! I got the one from "Albert
Hoogen", and it seemed a bit strange, so I Googled his name and found your site. You saved me a lot of trouble, and perhaps expense. I'll spread the word to our local instrument makers list and an international list as well. Again, thanks a million!
